William Scully

WILLIAM SCULLY makes his photographs using several Canon digital SLR cameras and lenses. His infrared images are captured using an SLR that has been permanently converted to record light wavelengths in the infrared range of the spectrum. For underwater shooting his camera and wide angle lens are encased in an Ikelite plexiglass housing with an 8" dome port. He produces all of his own print work (up to 22" widths) on Epson printers with UltraChrome K3 pigment inks and various archival papers. William is based in Boston and Truro, on Cape Cod.

Much of Scully's work involves traditional and nature-based subjects however he also enjoys unusual images and perspectives, which has led him into such specialized areas as underwater and infrared photography. Whether SCUBA diving with his camera contained in a Plexiglas housing, or capturing light wavelengths that are invisible to the human eye with an infrared camera, artistic vision becomes critical in these areas where it is quite literally difficult to see. The physical approach taken to his photographic work though diving, kayaking, or sometimes standing in rivers allows this photographer to transcend his surroundings, connect with the subject, and focus his artistic vision.
