Susan Post received her undergraduate degree in studio art and cultural anthropology from Princeton University, and thirty years later was awarded a Master’s of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she was a member of their inaugural class in residence at The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Her work has been exhibited at group exhibitions of color abstraction at the OK Harris Gallery and The Painting Center in New York City, and the Woman’s Museum in Dallas, Texas, and is included in the Barbara Krakow Gallery’s Annual AIDS Benefit in Boston.

Post makes oil paintings on linen, canvas, panel and paper in a range of sizes. Her work begins with many free permutations of compositional studies that focus on proportion and relative value. Her process is both fresh and deliberate resulting in carefully considered compositions made from gorgeous color and range of tones and textures, beautifully applied. With studied awareness her surfaces are reworked until they become activated to allow for multiple ‘reads’ and to suggest ambiguous or wavering figure/ground relationships. The work feels fully human and rooted in the history of painting and contemporary in its relationship to space, light and architecture.
