GEORGE PERKINS an Artist/Photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. He is a graduate of The School of Visual Arts in New York and has worked in the Studio of Jack Pierson and currently with Isaac Mizrahi. Perkins has been making pictures for over 17 years. His subjects – portraits, still lives, landscapes, or the suggested narrative are beautiful, tender and provocative. Some photographs address other art forms like painting or sculpture. Most present points of connection between thought and something more elemental using classic photographic issues like memory, time and light. George Perkins’ work is in various private collections throughout Europe and the United States.

Recent work is a series of 5 x 5” C- prints, color photographs taken with a Roloflex in his Brooklyn studio from 2007-2009.  They are a continuation of the pieces shown at the Schoolhouse Gallery in 2009, though this series is are more intimate single moments, pieces of a bigger idea (peace, survival, strength). Formally they deal thoughts of empty spaces, dark shapes, waiting/praying, something that was/ is no longer….and the elements, water, wind.  The work is about survival in the real world. By romanticizing the elements and building a new beginning or foundation these pictures make a bigger statement being small, thus the show’s title, ‘Starting Again.’
