KAREN CAPPOTTO works primarily in her Provincetown studio where she has been a resident since 1988. She had also worked in studios in Ireland and Italy. Cappotto is a painter and makes collages layered with paint, graphite and ink. Her paintings are made with oil paint on canvas and wood panels. Originally from Syracuse, Cappotto studied at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Boston College, Oxford University and at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Her work is in various public and private collections including PAAM and she has received multiple awards and prizes for her mixed media constructions. Recently she was awarded joint first prize in the 2010 international Picture Works Competition in Ireland. In March 2011 she was included in a three-person exhibition at the Provincetown Art Association & Museum titled, 'Beyond Surface'. In October 2011 Cappotto received a grant for painting from the LOWF foundation. Her Peg + Dick line of images and objects for the home is currently being featured by Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams. |
